Problem

BC Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MoTI) was looking for the ability to remotely monitor environmental conditions at a major bridge in Metro Vancouver, so that they could make more informed decisions regarding operations and maintenance.

Solution

An existing Information System (IS) was extended to provide the additional remote monitoring capabilities sought by the Ministry in a cost-effective manner. An image wall feature enabled users to view current conditions recorded by multiple cameras, and multiple camera presets, simultaneously. When real-time monitoring is required, a video wall feature enables live video streaming from multiple cameras, simultaneously. A Road Weather Information System (RWIS) and snow accumulation sensor implemented by others, were integrated into the IS to provide a centralized UI from which all monitoring activities could be performed.

Notable aspects of this project include:

  • Implementation of an internet web app based on ASP.NET, together with jQuery and KnockoutJS for front-end client interactivity,
  • Integration with third-party RWIS web app implemented by others.
